Give God Glory
"Give me a clean heart, Lord (Psalm 24); let me sing praises to you for your goodness (2 Samuel 6:1-5, 12b-19). Even in the face of suffering and injustice (Mark 6:14-29) we give God glory and honor, for we know in him all things will be reconciled, and we have our inheritance (Ephesians 1:3-14)."

Scripture Readings
The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it...Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol...
I will listen to what God the Lord says; he promises peace to his people...but let them not turn to folly. Surely his salvation is near those who fear him... Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss...

Practicing Prayer
O Lord, mercifully receive the prayers of your people who call upon you, and grant that they may know and understand what things they ought to do, and also may have grace and power faithfully to accomplish them; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Ancient Commentary on Mark 6:14-29

"Note well the weakness of the tyrant compared to the power of the one in prison. Herod was not strong enough to silence his own tongue. Having opened it, he opened up countless other mouths in its place and with its help. As for John, he immediately inspired fear in Herod after his murder—for fear was disturbing Herod’s conscience to such an extent that he believed John had been raised from the dead and was performing miracles! In our own day and through all future time, throughout all the world, John continues to refute Herod, both through himself and through others.”
-Chrysostom
